Picture-perfect sound Samsung’s latest entry into their Frame series – dubbed the Music Frame – is something I never saw coming, nor could I have imagined it sounding as good as it does. This cool, stand-or-wall-mountable incognito speaker has two purposes. First, it’s an old-school picture frame that holds any artwork you choose. Second, it’s a room-rocking powerhouse of a speaker that works on its own or together with select Samsung TVs and sound bars. The Music Frame smashed any expectations I had before getting hands-on with it. Sound intriguing? Read on. Custom-tuned drivers deliver a wide soundstage The Music Frame’s front consists of a removable panel that holds one 8″ x 10″ photo (with a square viewing window of 8″ x 8″). Behind the panel are six drivers that form a 3-way speaker system. There are two front-firing tweeters and midrange drivers, along with dual rear-firing bass woofers. The tweeter and midrange drivers were tuned by Samsung’s Audio Lab to sound great while firing through a slit around the picture panel that’s only 9mm across. Even cooler, the drivers have an insanely wide sweet spot thanks to Samsung’s patented wide-range speaker tech. Streaming music is easy There are quite a few ways to play your tunes through the Music Frame. You can pair your smartphone, tablet, or other device to it via Bluetooth and play that way. Or you can stream over Wi-Fi using TIDAL Connect, Spotify? Connect, Chromecast, Apple AirPlay, and Amazon Music. There’s also a physical optical digital input you can use to connect external sources like CD players. The Music Frame has you covered if you’re into smart home, too. It comes with Google and Amazon Alexa voice assistants and a built-in microphone. Expand with Q-Symphony Perhapsthe coolest part about the Music Frame is how expandable it is within Samsung’s Q-Symphony ecosystem. You can pair two of them together to get room-filling stereo sound. Or you can go all-out and pair two of them with your compatible Samsun
